FOR FAMILIES
Your parent or grandparent is learning technology and health skills at Golden Tech Club. Here is what that means, in plain terms.
What Golden Tech Club Is
Golden Tech Club is a social club where seniors practice using phones, tablets, and health tools in a calm, no-pressure setting. Nothing here is graded, timed, or judged. The whole point is to remove the fear of "breaking something," so members can try things for real.
Every practice tool on this website is a safe copy of something real: a pretend phone, a pretend doctor's office, a pretend patient portal. Nothing typed or shown ever leaves the device it is on.
What They Are Learning
- Getting a phone or tablet ready, including bigger text and a password keeper app, so passwords stop being a source of stress.
- Spotting scams in texts, emails, voicemails, and pop-ups, before it costs them anything.
- Telehealth and patient portals, including a full practice video visit and how to read a test result or a medical bill.
- Speaking up at the doctor's office and the pharmacy, with real words they can use at their very next appointment.
- Wearable devices like smartwatches, and what they actually do.
- Emergency readiness, so important information is ready ahead of time.
How You Can Help
The single most useful thing you can do is ask them to show you something they learned, and then let them drive.
This helps
- Asking "can you show me?" instead of doing it for them
- Being patient while they find the button themselves
- Celebrating the attempt, not just success
- Sitting in on a real telehealth visit if invited
This gets in the way
- Reaching over and tapping their screen for them
- Taking the phone "just to fix it quickly"
- Rushing them or finishing their sentences
- Assuming they haven't already figured it out
On Privacy
Nothing your family member does on this website is recorded, saved to a server, or shared with anyone, including us. Answers and practice stay on their own device. There are no accounts to worry about, and nothing to log into. You can read the full explanation on our How We Protect You page.
